Website Development in India – How to Plan, Build and Launch a Business Website
Customers in India now check a business online before they call, visit or pay, whether it is a clinic, a coaching centre, a manufacturer or a restaurant. A clear, fast website with the right information turns those searches into enquiries. This guide walks through planning, building and launching one.
1. Decide what the website must do
Write down the one or two outcomes that matter most. Common ones:
- Get enquiries: calls, WhatsApp messages or form submissions
- Sell online: product catalogue, cart and payment through UPI, cards or net banking
- Take bookings: appointments, rentals, tables or classes
- Serve existing customers: logins, order history, invoices or support
The first is a standard business website. The others need web-app features such as user accounts, a database and a payment gateway, so plan for them from the start if you expect to need them.
2. Plan the pages
- Home: what you do, for whom, where, and one clear action
- One page per service or product line: these are the pages that rank on Google for specific searches
- Work or case studies: real projects, photos and results
- About: who is behind the business, which builds trust
- Contact: phone, WhatsApp, address with a map, and opening hours
- Blog or guides (optional): useful articles that answer your customers' common questions
3. Choose the technology
Website builders and WordPress themes are quick for simple brochure sites. Custom development costs more at the start, but gives you faster pages, full control over search optimisation, and room to add features later without rebuilding.
We build with React (the interface), Django (logins, payments and data) and Tailwind CSS (design). For e-commerce we integrate Indian payment gateways such as Razorpay, and OTP-based login, as in our Harit Aahar online store project.
4. Write content for your customers
- Use the words customers search for: "physiotherapy clinic in Raipur", not "holistic wellness solutions"
- Answer the questions you get on every phone call: price range, timings, area served, how long it takes
- Use your own photos where possible
- Only make claims you can back up with examples, reviews or numbers
5. Launch checklist
- Domain and hosting registered in the business owner's name
- HTTPS enabled
- Every page has its own title and description
- Sitemap submitted in Google Search Console
- Google Business Profile created and linked to the website
- Analytics installed, with enquiry clicks tracked as conversions
- Tested on a low-end Android phone and on slow mobile data
6. After launch
A website starts bringing in search traffic over weeks and months, not days. Check Search Console monthly to see which searches you appear for, improve the pages that are close to the first page of results, ask happy customers for Google reviews, and add a new service page or guide whenever you notice a question customers keep asking.
